Boise State Football Schedule

The Boise State Football Schedule for 2010 looks to be their toughest test since 2005. How many times have you heard the complaint "Boise States football schedule is weak" or "Boise would only win 5 games in a BCS conference"? Well here is the opportunity for Boise State to prove their stuff with a legitimate out of conference schedule. The Bronco's should open up the season in the top 5, meaning that if they run the table they will definitely be in the national championship talks.

9/06 Virginia Tech* W 33-30

9/18 @ Wyoming W 51-6

9/25 Oregon State* W 37-24

10/2 @ New Mexico State W 59-0

10/9 Toledo W 57-14

10/16 @ San Jose W 48-0

10/26 Louisiana Tech W 49-20

11/6 Hawaii W 42-7

11/12 @ Idaho W 52-14

11/19 Fresno W 51-0

11/26 @ Nevada* L 34-31

12/04 Utah State

Virginia Tech

This game is the grand-daddy of them all for Boise State to win. If Boise does not win this game, they are not going to be in the national championship talks at the end of the season. This game is essentially a home game for Virginia Tech as it is being played in Landover Maryland on FedEx field. The Hokies have their QB and RB returning. While the Hokies might not be too excited about Tyrod Taylor as QB, they plenty of reason to be excited about their RB Ryan Williams who ran for 1,655 yards last season. The one problem for the Hokies is that they return only 4 of 11 starters on defense. Regardless this looks to be the toughest game of Boise States football schedule.

@ Wyoming

Wyoming looks to be the next test for the Broncos, only because they are playing at Wyoming and Wyoming is an under-rated MWC team. However, I don't think the Broncos will have a hard time putting this one away.

Oregon State

The Beavers were thisclose to being Pac-10 champs last season. The Beavs return several of their star players, and look to give the Broncos their second toughest test of the season. The Beavers might be more of a test than the Hokies since by this time the season will be halfway through and both teams will have many of their flaws worked out. However, I am giving the Broncos the edge since they are playing on the blue.

@ Nevada and vs Fresno

What Boise State football schedule analysis would be complete if the obligatory mention of Nevada and Fresno State were missing? I doubt Pat Hill and the dawgs will give the Bronco's much trouble especially playing on the blue. The Wolfpack of Nevada had traditionally given Boise a run for their money whenever they have played @ Nevada. Look for this to be the toughest WAC test for the Bronco's.

Analysis of the Season

So are the Broncos worthy of being in the national championship hunt if they go undefeated? As a fan of Boise State I would resoundlingly say yes. But as a realist I would have to concede several points before putting Boise State in that realm. The first point would be that Va. Tech and Oregon State must have superb seasons in their conferences. The second point is their can not be any undefeated teams from the BCS conferences. And a third helpful (but not necessary) point would be WAC PLEASE PLAY BETTER FOOTBALL!!

Here's to hoping the Broncos do well this year. It would sure be a victory for the underdog. What do you think of the Boise State Football Schedule?

Update (11/25/10)

Boise could not have asked for a better season. After narrowly escaping Virginia Tech to open the season the Broncos have gone almost unchallenged. Kellen Moore is once again a Heisman candidate and leading the nation in pass efficiency and their defense has been lights out.

Boise has also been helped out by the fact that the BCS conference teams are down this year. Only two BCS teams remain undefeated and one of those, Auburn, still faces stiff competition from Alabama and South Carolina. I am still not convinced that voters would put in an undefeated Boise State over a one loss BCS team. I hope that I am wrong, but we will get answers in the near future.

Update (11/27/10)

Man, yesterday was a gut wrenching day of emotions. First Auburn was so close to losing but they pulled it out in the end. Then it was Oregon's turn, they let Zona hang in there for a good half and once again my hopes ran high. In typical Oregon fashion they blew the gates open in the second half. So I was completely content with beating Nevada and moving into third in the BCS. You know the Rose Bowl really isn't all that bad after all.

One little glitch though, I totally overlooked Nevada as did everyone.  Nevada played inspired football. Their D-line and O-line outplayed Boise State. So congratulations are in order for the Nevada wolfpack, your team was the better team last night.

As a Boise State fan, I have been extremely blessed with this amazing run throughout the years. I can't even count how many WAC titles, two fiesta bowls, four undefeated seasons in the last seven, a player from the non-AQ conference in the Heisman conversation. I am extremely proud of what this team has accomplished and look forward to this continuing journey!

What do you think of Boise State's Football Schedule?

  • They are definitely deserving of the national championship if they go undefeated again
  • It is a tough schedule, but not deserving of national championship consideration
  • My Grandma, and her bingo friends could beat Boise State

After Virginia Tech lost, all chances for BSU to go to the national championship is over unless VT wins the ACC and there is only one 1 loss team from the Big Six conferences

I"m a fan of the SEC. But , I have to agree, IF Boise goes undefeated, and there is only one other undefeated team from the BCS conferences, then Boise should be in the National Championship game.

I don't see this working out well for Boise. I suspect that Ohio St. , Oklahoma, and Alabama, all have a legitamate shot at going undefeated. Certainly everyone has to agree that any of those teams have a much more difficult schedule than Boise.

One last note, get rid of the Blue turf. I know its a trade mark for the program, but it still sucks.

Go Boise! They aren't looking so bad as of right now. 4th right below TCU. I think by the time Boise State has finished the season they will be ranked 2nd or 3rd, depending on what Oregon, and Auburn do. Auburn still has to play bama! And VT keeps on winning, and it looks like Hawaii is coming back up in the ranks. Boise States schedule is getting better by the day.
